Topographic signatures of progressive glacial landscape transformation

چکیده

The Pleistocene glaciations left a distinct topographic footprint in mountain ranges worldwide. geometric signature of glacial topography has been quantified various ways, but the temporal development landscape metrics not traced evolution model so far. However, such information is needed to interpret degree imprint terms integrated signal and spatial variations erosion as function occupation time. We apply surface process for cold-climate conditions an initially fluvial range. By exploring evolving patterns time series, we determine locations where changes reach maximum initial persists. erosion, expressed by overdeepening valleys steepening valley flanks, develops first at glacier front migrates upstream with ongoing erosion. This leads increase mean channel slope its variance. Above steep flanks head-walls, however, observed remains similar topography. characteristic turning point slope–elevation distribution above equilibrium line altitude, transition from increasing decreasing elevation occurs. identify this high variance diagnostic features quantify imprint. Such are abundant glacially imprinted mid-latitude Eastern Alps. analysing differently glaciated parts range, observe clarity morphometric property occupation. catchments unglaciated eastern fringe Alps also feature points their distributions, contrast domain, small all levels.

Topographic Transformation as a Discrete Latent Variable

Invariance to topographic transformations such as translation and shearing in an image has been successfully incorporated into feedforward mechanisms, e.g., "convolutional neural networks", "tangent propagation". We describe a way to add transformation invariance to a generative density model by approximating the nonlinear transformation manifold by a discrete set of transformations. An EM algo...

compactifications and representations of transformation semigroups

this thesis deals essentially (but not from all aspects) with the extension of the notion of semigroup compactification and the construction of a general theory of semitopological nonaffine (affine) transformation semigroup compactifications. it determines those compactification which are universal with respect to some algebric or topological properties. as an application of the theory, it is i...

Space and Time Topographic Signatures of Ice Sheet

Altimetry is probably one of the most powerful tools for the observation of ice sheets. The topography is one of the pertinent parameters related to the processes acting on ice sheets. Because it is a free surface, it description strongly helps in ice modelling. From the global scale to the km-scale, the topography hides the signature of the physical processes as well as the one of external for...

Topographic Electrophysiological Signatures of fMRI Resting State Networks

BACKGROUND fMRI Resting State Networks (RSNs) have gained importance in the present fMRI literature. Although their functional role is unquestioned and their physiological origin is nowadays widely accepted, little is known about their relationship to neuronal activity. The combined recording of EEG and fMRI allows the temporal correlation between fluctuations of the RSNs and the dynamics of EE...

Landscape Transformation and Disease Emergence

During his long ocean passage to Australia in 1852, Eugene von Guérard reported that conditions were far from ideal, and “meals were late and bad” (1). He had boarded a sailing ship at Gravesend, England, to seek his fortune in Victoria. At the gold fields of Ballarat, he described mining as “arduous at first” and causing “much backache and blistering of hands” (1). His gold mining efforts in B...
